Mr. Tabrez is a salesman from west Bangalore, Kavalbysandra. He is 16 years old and studies in the 11th grade in Kamala Bai intercollege. His father is unemployed and his sister is married and has a baby girl at the age of 2. Together they all live in a small house - Tabrez, the father, sister and the small baby girl, because the sisters husband left her because she could not pay a sufficient dowry.
A 'dowry' is a certain amount of money or goods the girl's (who is getting married) father is obligated to give to the guy she is about to marry. If the father does not pay the money or if it is not sufficient for the fiancé, the girl is at risk for abuse, and in worst cases, the girls has been poured over with acid or burnt alive.
Tabrez has not been able to pay his fees for school, and is therefor not allowed to sit for his examination. The amount required is INR 28000/-. To make any hope of making a good living for himself as a computer expert, he needs the funds to buy a computer for his further studies.
